By launching three underground gas storage facilities, there would be the possibility to draw 35 million cubic meters of gas per day from them in winter.
Managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Javad Oji, made the remarks adding stockpiling gas, especially for cold season, is necessary and to that end, Serageh, Yortsha and Sorijeh underground gas storage facilities are being under construction in three different areas in the country, Oji said.
There is the possibility to draw 9.8, 20 and 4.8 million cubic meters of gas per day from Serajeh, Shorijeh and Yortsha underground gas storage facilities respectively, the official said, adding launching these projects would ensure meeting gas needs during the winter.
He called Serajeh compound as the first underground gas storage facility in Iran and the biggest natural one in the Middle East.
In the first phase, Serajeh is able to take 3.5 million cubic meters of gas per day, the official said adding the facility?s gas storage capacity has risen to 400 million cubic meters since starting gas injection.
Under the Fifth Five Year Development Plan, Petroleum Ministry is obliged to raise gas storage capacity to 14 billion cubic meters per year as of 2015.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Oji said boosting gas exports to the neighboring countries, Europe and East Asia are among the priorities of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).
