The Wisconsin DNR provided these summaries of recent activities by conservation wardens:
Warden Amie Egstad of Bayfield received information about an illegally set snare by one of the boat/ice landings. The snare had a grey fox in it. The fox was still alive and was released successfully. Information and evidence were gathered on the illegal snare with enforcement action pending.
Warden Brad Biser of Brule investigated an incident involving an ATV that broke through the ice on an area lake. No one was injured in the incident.
Warden John Krull of Superior investigated a complaint of a dead wolf in the Wascott area. The wolf had been shot and then moved to the location it was reportedly found. The investigation continues.
Warden Krull received a complaint from a landowner of two people trespassing on his private property during the muzzleloader season. Information included use of a rifle and using an ATV to recover a 10-point buck. A follow-up investigation resulted in several citations being issued for various hunting and trespassing violations.
Warden Tom Heisler of Winter investigated an illegal deer baiting complaint. During the contact with the reporting party, Warden Heisler found the reporting party also had placed illegal bait on the opposite side of the road. Enforcement action was taken.
Warden Dave Swanson of Minong contacted an archery deer hunter who had left a ground blind on DNR land with no identification on the blind. The hunter also had dumped a 50-pound bag of corn as deer bait. Enforcement action was taken.
Warden Jon Hagen of Spooner and Warden Jesse Ashton of Luck investigated a baiting complaint. Wardens located two baiting violations with one of them found on a neighboring property. Enforcement actions were taken on baiting and borrow/loan license violations.
Warden Chris Spaight of Grantsburg was contacted by the Burnett County Sheriff?s Department about a criminal damage to property, theft and ATV complaint near Grantsburg. Warden Spaight and a Burnett County Sheriff?s Deputy went to the scene and looked over the area. It seemed clear by the way the suspects were operating the ATV that the machine was most likely stolen. Approximately four hours later, the ATV was located and found to be stolen.
